What does the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester fund?

The Community Foundation welcomes grant requests, especially those that support innovative projects focusing on Culture, Community, Development, Education, Environment, Human Concerns and Youth.


Any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in or serving the Greater Rochester, Michigan area.  Individuals are only eligible for educational scholarships. The Community Foundation does not make grants for normal operating expenses or political campaigns.

Can my organization submit multiple applications?

You may submit one application per program. For example, you may request support from The Women’s Fund for an initiative and also apply for a different program or initiative from The Men’s Fund or the Community Foundation in general.  If you are considering submitting more than one application, please contact the Community Foundation to determine the best approach.

How do I give my proposal the best chance for success?

At any time a Letter of Intent outlining the proposed project and the funds requested may be submitted. A staff member will contact you to discuss your project and funding opportunities available. Many organizations have found that this informal approach gives them a helpful start in communicating their vision. If the proposal meets the Foundation’s criteria and funding capability the applicant will be asked to submit a grant application.

How do I find out whether you fund my proposal?

We will email every applicant with our decision within 6-8 weeks of the proposal deadline.
